Laser Eye Surgery Recovery Time

The recovery time for PRK, Laser Blended Vision Correction, Refractive Lens Exchange, Premium Lens Implant and Phakic Implant Surgery varies person-to-person but it does takes longer than LASIK. We recommend you plan to have a week away from your normal schedule after PRK.
Cataract surgery recovery time also varies however those choosing more advanced refractive premium implants, especially multifocal lenses, may find it could take 2-3 months to completely reach their final visual outcome. Some people may heal quicker or slower than others.
Will I Feel Any Discomfort Or Pain?
The most common question we get asked is “does laser eye surgery hurt?”. The answer is no, the laser eye surgery procedure does not hurt (numbing drops are used to prevent this), however there are some things you may experience during your recovery.
- Dryness of the eyes is possible following any type of eye surgery. If you experience dry eye symptoms already, then it is more likely you will experience increased dryness during the first few weeks after surgery and using moisturizing drops is key to recovery.
- You might feel some burning, or a sensation similar to having an eyelash in your eye for a few days during the initial healing but you can think of this as being no different to the sensation you may feel for a few days after a scraped knee or small cut.
- As the cornea heals, you may experience some halos and starbursts. This is a normal side-effect that for the majority of patients, passes within a few months if not sooner.
